Abstract

Abstract

Globally, the decline of Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) during the past two decades are slower than Under Five Mortality Rate (U5MR). Neonatal mortality account for more than a third in UM5R, two third in infant mortality and three quarter of it was happening in the first week of life. Based on Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS), NMR in 2012 was 19 per 1000 live births and this rate didn’t reduce from IDHS 2007. The objective of this study was to indentify determinants of neonatal death in Indonesia . This study used the data from 2002-2003, 2007, and 2012 IDHS. The design of this study was retrospective cohort study and assessed the association of factors related to neonatal death used survival analysis. A total of 35984 live births’ singleton in IDHS 2002-2003, 2007 and 2012 were analyzed. Bivariat analyses showed that mother’s age at childbirth, antenatal care visit, Mother’s education level had significantly higher hazard of neonatal death in Indonesia. To increasing neonatal survival, we must avoid childbirth at a younger age dan too old, increase mother’s education level and promote how important antenatal care visit for pregnant women.
