Abstract

Malaria is one of the public health problems in Indonesia that can cause death. Therefore need to be taken seriously. Treatment using chemicals as antimalarials often results in resistance and causes side effects. One of the efforts to overcome this problem is to use natural alternative ingredients such as seaweed. Eucheuma cottonii seaweed is abundant in Indonesia, one of which is in Ruguk Village, Ketapang, South Lampung. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of phytochemical compounds from aceton and n-hexane extract of Eucheuma cottonii seaweed which have the potential antimalarials. Theresearch was carried out at Botanical Laboratory, Departmen of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural science University of Lampung and the GC-MS test (Gass Chromatogrpahy-Mass  Spectroscopy) in the Integrated Laboratory of UII with descriptive method. The GC-MS test was chosen because it has advantages such as being more efficient, being able to analyze small particles, an adjustable temperature, and having a wide variety of detectors. The result of this research, aceton extract of Eucheuma cottonii contains Benzene, 1-methyl-3-(1methylethyl) and 2-hexadecen-1-ol, 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl. The n-hexane extract contains 2-Pentanone, 4-hydroxy-4-methyl which has potential as antimalarials.
