Abstract

Abstract

Introduction : Chronic obstuctive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic disease whose spread and recurrence is quite high. Long-distance care and monitoring of COPD patients who need continuous care and for a long time are needed, especially in areas with limited resources. M-health is an application that offers integration of various treatment functions above through the use of a smartphone. The aim of this study was want to find out about the role of m-health applications in supporting nurses in treating COPD patients.

Methods: The design used was a literature review; articles were collected using search engines such as online PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Medline. Literature is restricted from 2010-2018.

Results and Discussion: Based on the articles collected, the results show that the use of smartphones in Indonesia has expanded for various purposes so that the application of m-health to medical surgical nursing services will be easy to apply. The United States, Sweden, and Japan have proven that m-health can improve the quality of nursing services. However, so far, Indonesia has not yet developed m-health in various health services. Indonesian surgical medical nurses should start taking initiatives to study m-health, conduct research, and collaborate with several related professions in order to participate in and develop better health services in the future.
