Abstract

Abstract

This research was conducted to answer the following six problems concerning the existing waste plastics and their possible development further in Yogyakarta, to include: management and processing, furniture forms made of this material, combination of materials, workmanship techniques, colors, and types of plastics used. To answer all the research problems above, the researcher have used descriptive analytical method (qualitative research). The finding to answer the first problem shows that the collection of waste plastic in Yogyakarta is very slow. The finding to answer the second problem shows that the simplest form furniture to be developed can still use eco brick as its basis but eco brick can be upholstered to make it more interesting using vinyl or textile fabric. The textile fabric can also be used to promote traditional textile such as Yogyakarta batik with its various decorative motifs. The finding to answer the third problem shows that other materials can also be combined with recycled plastic. The finding to answer the fourth problem shows that there are several working techniques that can be used. The finding to answer the fifth problem shows that attractive colors in recycled plastic furniture can be presented. The finding to answer the sixth problem shows that PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), PP (Polypropylene), and the mixture of several types of plastic can be used.
