DETERMINAN SOSIAL PERILAKU PERTOLONGAN PERSALINAN PADA MASYARAKAT SUKU BADUY LUAR, PROPINSI BANTEN, JAWA BARAT

Birth attendant by health worker is one of the important indicators in reproductive health aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality. The cause of not optimal birth attendant by health worker was still lack of knowledge and public awareness about health service benefit of mother and still high trust to shaman (paraji) which is part of belief system and culture of society. The purpose of this research was to analyze the social determinants of birth attendant behavior among Baduy Luar tribe women, Banten province. This research was analytic study with cross sectional approach. The population in this study was Baduy Luar mothers who had children under five years old in Kadungketug village, Banten province. Sampling method used was purposive sampling with the number of respondents is 60 people. Dependent variable was birth attendant behavior and independent variable were age, education, occupation, parity, and distance of health service. Data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis (statistical test χ²). The results: most of the respondents were 20-34 years old (90%), uneducated (100%), weaver (50%), one parity (50%), average distance of health service was 7,4 km, and birth attendant by shaman (90%). Based on χ² statistical test, occupation and parity were social determinats of birth attendant behavior (p <0,05). The conclusion, there was need to continuous communication, information and education efforts on birth attendant behavior by health worker among Baduy Luar tribe woman.
