Abstract

This study discusses the representation of bullying built by verbal and nonverbal signs in the Doraemon cartoon series. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive design. By using Peirce's semiosis analysis, it can be concluded that verbal and nonverbal signs in the Doraemon cartoon series represent bullying in various types such as verbal bullying, physical bullying, imposing will, seizing goods, and physical threats. This study has theoretical implications that dissect film text in sequence into two levels, namely audio and visual, and then analyze the semiosis process one by one, each in several stages then elaborating the two levels of the text into a signification of mutually reinforcing signs. The social implications of this research stimulate viewers to be aware and critical of bullying-laden content. Practical implications, this research can be used as a reference for policy makers to make regulations that can filter out children's impressions whose content contains bullying. This study provides recommendations for academics who are interested in studying the representation of a phenomenon in translated texts to pay attention to the effect of translating a text that comes from one culture to another. In addition, this study also recommends terminating Doraemon cartoon series because the content is full of bullying. This research also recommends mentoring a tighter children's audience in watching televisionKeywords: modern learner,Games instructional video, effective and engaging instructional video.
